Proton Malaysia and its Nepalese partner, Jagdamba Motors, have issued a joint statement ahead of the Geely Galaxy E5 launch in Nepal. The statement reiterates that their partnership remains exclusively focused on the Proton brand and the Proton e.MAS 7.
In an official joint statement, Edmund Lim Meng Thong, CEO of Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd, said: “Geely has not appointed any official or authorized seller of Geely-branded vehicles in Nepal. Our focus in Nepal through this partnership remains exclusively on the Proton brand and the Proton e.MAS 7.”
The Proton e.Mas 7, introduced earlier this year, is Malaysia’s first locally developed electric vehicle and is based on the Geely Galaxy E5 platform. Its launch in Nepal was officiated by Proton CEO Dr. Li Chunrong, reflecting the brand’s long-term commitment to the market. Under the partnership established in 2018, Jagdamba Motors continues to serve as the sole authorized distributor for Proton in Nepal.
Beyond the clarification, Proton highlighted the growing success of the e.MAS 7 in Malaysia, where it has become the No.1 EV model as of July 2025, the top-selling EV SUV in the C-segment, and the best-selling EV overall in the Malaysian market. The company said this track record underscores the strength of the model as it expands to new international markets such as Nepal.
Akhil Gupta, Executive Director of Jagdamba Motors, added that the partnership is more than just a distribution arrangement, describing it as a shared vision to accelerate Nepal’s shift toward sustainable mobility. “With the introduction of the Proton e.Mas 7 and our expanding service network, we are committed to making electric vehicles more accessible, reliable, and desirable for every Nepali customer,” he said.
Looking ahead, Proton and Jagdamba Motors outlined an ambitious roadmap for Nepal. By 2025, the company plans to operate 12 showrooms and service centers nationwide, three of which are already functional. Customers will also benefit from a strengthened aftersales ecosystem featuring genuine Proton spare parts, Proton and Geely-certified technicians, advanced diagnostic tools, and streamlined warranty and service support.
According to the joint statement, Proton and Jagdamba Motors remain committed to strengthening Nepal’s electric mobility ecosystem, expanding showrooms and aftersales support, and clarifying that, at the time of writing, Geely has not appointed any authorized dealers for Geely-branded vehicles in Nepal.
